Privacy policy
Last updated: October 21, 2026
Railgo LLC ("Railgo," "we," "us") makes the Railgo mobile app, which alerts drivers to railroad crossings on their route. This policy explains what we collect, why we collect it, who we share it with, and how you can delete it. It applies to the Railgo app and to therailgoapp.com.
Information we collect
- Location. Your device's precise location while you're using the app, so we can alert you to crossings near you and on your route and give you directions. Railgo does not use your location when the app isn't in use. Location access is optional, but alerts and navigation won't work without it.
- Account information. A user ID and, if you create an account, your email address and sign-in details. You can also use Railgo as a guest without an account.
- Device information. A device identifier, used to link the app to your phone and to limit repeat reports, and, if you allow notifications, a push notification token so we can send you alerts.
- Destination searches. The places you search for and route to, which we use to calculate your route and check crossings along it.
- Crossing reports. Reports you submit about a crossing, such as a blocked crossing, with the time and location of the report. Reports update the crossing status other drivers see (red, yellow or green). Your name and email are never shown to other drivers.
- Website contact. If you email us or sign up to be notified at launch, we keep your email address.
We do not collect crash or diagnostic data, and we do not use analytics or tracking tools. We do not collect advertising identifiers, contacts, photos or payment information.
How we use information
- To provide crossing alerts, routing and core app features
- To keep crossing information accurate, including through driver reports
- To secure accounts and prevent misuse of the service
- To respond to your messages
What we don't do
- We don't sell or rent your personal information.
- We don't use your data for advertising, and we don't track you across other companies' apps or websites.
- We don't share your location with advertisers or data brokers.
Who we share information with
We share information only with service providers that help us run Railgo, and only what they need to do that work:
- Hosting and database providers that store app data
- Mapping and routing providers, which receive your location and destination to calculate routes and road information
- Apple and Google, to deliver push notifications
These providers must protect your information at least as well as this policy does, and they may not use it for their own purposes. We may also disclose information when the law requires it.
How long we keep it
We keep your information only while your account is active or as long as we need it to provide the service. When you delete your account, we remove your account, sign-in details and device link. Crossing reports you submitted stay in our crossing data with no link to you. We keep website emails until you ask us to remove them.
Your choices
- Location and notifications: turn them off at any time in your device settings.
- Delete your account: in the app, go to Settings > Delete account. If you use Railgo as a guest, email us and we'll delete the information linked to your device.
- See or correct your data: email support@therailgoapp.com.
Children
Railgo is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.
Changes to this policy
We'll update the date at the top when this policy changes. If the change is material, we'll let you know in the app or on this website.
